We hardly need to introduce the Australian Council for Educational Research ACER to you. Among its major projects ACER has been head of the consortium conducting the successful PISA programme on behalf of the OECD and the participating countries.
In a separate yet PISA−linked project, ACER developed an annual assessment programme in English. In 2007 / 2008 this International Schools´ Assessment programme (ISA), was administered worldwide to 37,000 students from grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9 or 10 from 218 schools in 79 countries.
The logic of offering PISA−quality assessment to schools, and of linking individual students results to PISA has prompted us to co−operate with ACER in bringing their ISA to non−English speaking schools as well.
Like its English original ISA in deutscher Sprache assesses
- Reading Literacy (Lesen),
- Mathematical Literacy (Mathematik) and the new domain of
- Writing (Schreiben; Writing A - Narrative Writing, Writing B - Argumentative Writing).
grades 3./4. Writing A and B |
grades 5./6. Writing A and B |
grades 7.−9./10. Writing A and B |
grades 9./10. Maths and Writing A, Reading and Writing B |

ISA in deutscher Sprache for schools was field tested in German and Austrian schools in 2003/2004 and is available in a "Standard South / At" version (on request a separate Standard North version can be supplied).
The project has been carried out under the expert supervision of ACER, which warrants the broad cultural base of the testing instruments and ensures high standards of translation, test evaluation, administration, marking and reporting.
Schools and educational institutions are invited to order ISA in deutscher Sprache for grades 9 and 10 (official testing dates are October and February).
In addition pro_ed can offer assessment of Writing in German starting from grade 3 (8−year olds).
As the testing scales of Writing are progressional, schools and other educational institutions (e.g. second−chance or adult) can apply this programme to their students.
Given sufficient interest, we will complete ISA in deutscher Sprache by adding the full ISA programme for grades 3, 5, and 7 to the existing 9/10 testing.
Other language versions will be developed according to demand.
